During a telephone conference with reporters yesterday, outgoing Microsoft co-president Jim Allchin told a reporter that the system’s new lockdown features are so capable and thorough that he was comfortable with his own seven-year-old son using Windows Vista without antivirus software installed.
This statement strikes me as the sort of thing that we will look back on in hilarity in few short years. I’m posting it just for that occasion.
Kurt Hochenauer over at OkieFunk has a great voter’s guide to the Oklahoma election aimed at liberal voters. He writes:

Just days after this clearly-manipulated photo of Katie Couric started making the rounds (first on the web, but my wife pointed it out in People Magazine, too) we get the word that HP has announced a new digital camera with a “Slimming” function. According to the page on HP.com:
They say cameras add ten pounds, but HP digital cameras can help reverse that effect. The slimming feature, available on select HP digital camera models, is a subtle effect that can instantly trim off pounds from the subjects in your photos!
And to think we all thought that CBS used Photoshop.
I woke up this morning to the horrible news that TV’s Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, had died due to a fatal stingray wound. It’s hard to put into words how much I admired and enjoyed Steve – especially as someone who from a young age always had a soft spot for reptiles and amphibians. He will be truly missed and my best to his beloved family.
