Hi. I'm Jason Zimdars a web designer in Oklahoma City, OK and this is my website.

Speaking event in October

I am pleased to announce that I will be speaking at Tulsa TechFest 2008 on October 10th. Here’s the description of the session, Javascript Libraries for Designers:

Javascript and AJAX-style effects are everywhere on the web, but thanks to a new batch of easy-to-use libraries, sophisticated animation effects can be used by designers with no programming or Flash needed. Tailored to the accomplished designer with limited programming skills, this session intends to practically show how to tap into the power of “write less, do more” Javascript libraries. This is a practical, how-to session that will benefit a wide-range of designers.

It’s something I’ve wanted to present for awhile now. Many designers have jumped into XHTML and CSS but think that they need to be a “programmer” to use JavaScript. Many of these libraries are very accessible and even geared toward designers who lack programming skills. The session will focus on showing designers how easy it is to incorporate sophisticated visual effects into their website designs.

I’ve not previously attended Tulsa TechFest but I’m looking forward to the event. Hope to see some of you there.

    Wow, congrats. Which JavaScript libraries specifically will you be covering? Just out of curiosity, how did you grab that speaking slot?

  2. JZ Says:

    Thanks, Vance. I’ll probably start out with an overview of the top libraries, but I’m thinking of using mostly jQuery for the specific examples. jQuery seems to me to be the most friendly to new scripters.

    David Walker, the organizer of the event contacted me about the speaking gig. I’m not sure how he found me. I think there may still be a slot or two open if you have a topic in mind. I can get you his contact info.

    @JZ

    Awesome – I love jQuery and have been using it for a year or two now. I have the (biased) opinion that it’s the best javascript library there is.

    Yeah, I actually sent an email last night to director {at} tulsatechfest.com (an email listed on their website) inquiring about a speaking position for a PHP topic (They have one “TBA” slot). I have not received a reply yet (I sent it late last night and it’s only been about 10 hours so far), but I would appreciate any help you can give me to get in touch with the right people. This sounds like an awesome opportunity to get started in public speaking.

    By the way, I just read this – http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/09/16/jquery-examples-and-best-practices/ it should be an awesome resource for your upcoming presentation.

    You’re right it is a good chance to hone one’s speaking skills. I know I need as much help as I can get. I’ll shoot the conference organizer an email and see if he can get you in. He mentioned going on vacation before the event so I’m not sure if he’s back yet.

    Great link. Thanks! I’ll be sure to use some of that for my talk.

    I’m in for a PHP topic – looking forward to it!
